Outdoor Church

Do you enjoy spending time in nature?

Do you experience the divine outdoors in creation as well as indoors in houses of worship?

Are you feeling the need to carve out space in your life for quiet, prayer, and community with others?

If so, join us in central Ohio for Outdoor Church!

This summer, Recovering Abundance is sponsoring an outdoor outreach experience called Outdoor Church. We will be gathering three times at Mt. Gilead State Park in Mt. Gilead, Ohio for a time of worship, reflective outdoor practice, and conversation around a passage of scripture and a poem or prayer.

Our times together will be guided by Andy Henry and Ashlyn Stanton. Andy and Ashlyn are seminary-trained spiritual guides who enjoy creating space where people can experience God, community, and their true selves through intentional time in nature. Anyone of any faith or no faith will be welcome, though our worship elements will be shared in the spirit of Christ-centered faith. People of all abilities are welcome and can engage in the various activities in a way most meaningful or comfortable for them. Children and families are also welcome.

Gathering 1: “Muddy Matters” (Earth; Mark 8)

Gathering 2: “Lungs, Limbs, and Leadings” (Air; Psalm 148)

Gathering 3:  “Baptized in the Deep” (Water, Genesis 1)

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Andy: andy.recoveringabundance@gmail.com

“I don’t think it is enough appreciated how much an outdoor book the Bible is… It is best read and understood outdoors, and the farther outdoors the better. Or that has been my experience of it. Passages that within walls seem improbable or incredible, outdoors seem merely natural. This is because outdoors we are confronted everywhere with wonders; we see that the miraculous is not extraordinary but the common mode of existence. It is our daily bread.”
